RISING teenage Judo star Courtney is being tipped for possible Olympic glory after being crowned British champion for the sixth consecutive year.
The Newcastle schoolgirl once again defeated all-comers in her age group at the British Judo Association Championships at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield to cement her place as the country’s leading 15-year-old girl in the sport.
And her coach Joe Laws believes she has the skills and drive to represent Great Britain in an Olympic Games, such is her prodigious talent for the sport.
Courtney, an Excelsior Academy pupil from Fenham, took up the sport with her brother Dillon when she was just five, and quickly powered her way to national glory and a place in the England squad.
Courtney is fighting and defeating girls two years older than her, undertakes extra training with area squads and has had trials for a place in the elite talent England squad.
She said: “Judo makes me feel excited and I know that if I win I’ll get praised off my coach.”
