Excelsior College students are offered many opportunities to enrich their student experience and add to their personal skills. We offer a wide range of interesting and diverse extra-curricular activities throughout the year, some of which are detailed here:
Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
As the North of England Flagship School (designated and funded by the Queens Trust) we offer bronze, silver and gold to all college students.
Our students have the chance to become accredited leaders through the SSAT. We have a Head Boy/Girl appointed through an official application process; they host regular student meetings with the College Council and feedback to the College Leadership Team.
Having just completed a three way partnership allowing students to travel to Sweden and Holland we are currently in the process of applying to the British Council to fund a new business orientated project with European partners. All college students have the opportunity to take part in international visits.
Three students spent their summer holidays helping underprivileged families in Mexico as part of The M10 charity project.
Each year, twelve students are selected to take part in a mentoring scheme lead by Newcastle University Law students.
Sport and Fitness
Students have access to our fitness suite and are encouraged to take part in team sports and clubs taking place beyond the college day.
The college has its very own Hair and Beauty Salon which opens its doors to staff, college students and the public offering services at a very competitive rate.
We have an award winning food service providing a very good choice of healthy, balanced meals served daily in our dedicated café. We also offer healthy living one to one guidance provided by specialist health professionals.
We will take you to national and local career conferences to ensure you are armed with as much information as possible to prepare for life beyond the College.
To remove you from your comfort zone you may find yourself navigating the woods or on a rescue mission with your team in the wilds of Northumberland.
Academy Drama Productions
College students are invited to audition for the Academy’s bi-annual and immensely popular drama productions. Our students more often than not are selected for lead roles. We look forward to seeing them in Grease this summer!
TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)
As we are a multi-national organisation we offer students the opportunity to gain nationally accredited qualification to teach English as a foreign language.
Due to our links to BA and the Air League, four students were fortunate enough to be able to train towards their Glider Pilot License following a very rigorous selection process at BA Headquarters, Heathrow.
