Progression beyond KS5
The college values the future beyond sixth form for all of our students and provides structured guidance for all through their link Progress Tutor, University Guidance Advisor, the Business Enterprise Subject Lead and College Senior staff.
Individual half term reviews are in place to assess progress and provide guidance. Your Progress Tutor along with the College Director will monitor your progress and liaise with teaching staff to ensure you are reaching your full potential and performing at your best. Towards the end of Y12 you will discuss your transition to Y13 and the choice of subjects selected to get you where you need to be.
Apprenticeship Opportunities with Rolls Royce
In partnership with Rolls Royce Excelsior College offers twenty four students a Level 3, two year Engineering Apprenticeship. Students have a four week alternating programme consisting of four weeks work experience at the Rolls Royce training centre on Armstrong Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne, combined with four weeks of academic study at Excelsior College.
Throughout the two year period students are able to apply for permanent full time positions in engineering organisations throughout the north east (and are able to continue the academic element of their apprenticeship).
Throughout the year we take students who are interested in applying to universities further afield to various open days around the country. We encourage our students to broaden their horizons when it comes to choosing their next place of study and provide support and guidance in all aspects of student life.
Upon arrival in the sixth form students are issued with a Unifrog log in ID which allows access to the national (and international) university and apprenticeship database.
We will keep you up to date on all part time vacancies in order for you to earn extra cash and enhance your CV. Our students have been successful in gaining employment with M&S, Greggs, Newcastle United Football Club and John Lewis.
We are in the very fortunate position of being able to offer one year apprenticeship programmes within Excelsior Academy in the areas of: reprographics, catering, administration, sport and marketing.
Due to our very strong business links we can offer work experience in such companies as Matfen Hall, Gordon Brown Solicitors and the NHS.
Student Paid Mentoring
As the Academy consists of not only a Sixth Form College but also a Primary School and three Lower Schools, we are able to employ student mentors. These are hourly paid positions offered to provide guidance (such as learning or behaviour) to our younger students. This looks great on your CV or on your UCAS application.
