Charity Fun Runner, Samantha Dixon.
Kind-hearted Samantha Dixon ran five kilometres to raise money for a children’s cancer charity.
She completed the fundraiser at Gosforth Park Racecourse on Sunday 21st May after six weeks spent training with the help of trainee PE teacher Daniel Burke.
The target for the cancer run was to raise £200,000 for North of England Children’s Cancer Research and Samantha was one of 9,000 runners taking part on the day.
For her efforts, Samantha, 14, a pupil in Hadrian School, was rewarded with a medal and T-shirt. So far she has raised over £400 to go to the charity which funds the fight against childhood cancer.
She said: “I trained for six weeks by running on the trim trail at school every day.
“On the day of the run I had a really good time, it got tough after three miles but I just kept pushing myself because I knew it was for a good cause.”
Karlie Batey, RAISE – Alternative provisions manager, said. “Not only has Samantha’s fitness improved, so has her sense of self-worth.
“The dedication, persistence and determination she has shown whilst training is commendable.”
